The W.E. Upjohn Peony Garden in Ann Arbor, renowned for its vast collection of historic peonies, was vandalized on June 1, 2025. Approximately 250 peony blooms were removed, and around 100 flyers advocating for Palestine were scattered throughout the garden, causing confusion among visitors and locals.

The flyers, bearing messages like 'Plant lives don't matter. Human lives do,' left many questioning the link between the destruction of the flowers and the political statement. No group has claimed responsibility, and local pro-Palestine organizations have distanced themselves from the act.

The Nichols Arboretum's peony garden, established in 1922, boasts over 800 peony plants, making it one of the largest collections in North America.
