A waxwork of President Macron, valued at €40,000, was whisked from Paris’s Grevin Museum by Greenpeace activists disguised as staff. The statue reemerged outside the Russian embassy, spotlighting France’s €17.9bn Russian gas imports. “Macron embodies this double discourse,” said Greenpeace France’s Jean-Francois Julliard.

Greenpeace staged the waxwork heist to protest France’s ongoing trade with Russia despite sanctions and Macron’s vocal support for Ukraine. The statue, paraded with protest signs, has not been recovered. No arrests reported, but police and museum staff remain baffled by the audacious daylight stunt.

Russia has earned over €883bn from fossil fuel exports since 2022, with €209bn from EU states—€17.9bn linked directly to France.
