Chinese gaming billionaire Xu Bo is facing global scrutiny after reports say he has fathered over 100 children. Most were allegedly born through surrogacy agencies in the United States. Xu Bo founded Guangzhou based Duoyi Network and helped create the hit MMORPG Fantasy Westward Journey. The Wall Street Journal reported the claims in December, citing people close to the company. Duoyi confirmed the figure in a statement, saying Xu has “only a little over 100” children, fathered “after many years of effort.” The company did not address where all the children live or who raises them. Xu’s former partner Tang Jing disputes the number, claiming he fathered more than 300 children during their 14 year relationship. She told the South China Morning Post the costs of raising “300 children” were enormous and consumed most of her money. Xu has openly promoted extreme views on reproduction for years. In 2023, he used social media to recruit girlfriends to produce “at least 50 high quality sons,” saying boys were superior and could inherit his empire. Surrogacy is banned in China, and public backlash has been swift. One Weibo user asked, “Can he raise children like livestock,” as critics questioned whether wealth should allow human breeding at scale.
