Kentucky police arrested a Nebraska man after finding 55 pounds of suspected meth wrapped as Christmas gifts near Louisville on December 27.
Jeffersontown Police said a drug dog alerted officers at a shopping center near the Bluegrass Parkway, prompting a search of a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.
Inside the trunk, officers found gift wrapped boxes holding the drugs and detained Jacob Talamantes, a 23 year old who arrived during an active investigation.
Chief Richard Sanders said, “No amount of festive wrapping can disguise the harm these drugs inflict on families and communities,” adding the packages never reached the streets.
Police said Talamantes told officers he was driving from Iowa to traffic the drugs and now faces first degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
The Drug Enforcement Agency and Kentucky State Police assisted, turning a holiday looking delivery into evidence bags instead of presents.
