3 official looking signs in Christchurch simply telling residents Don't

On December 22, pedestrians in Christchurch, New Zealand encountered seemingly official signs posted around the city with baffling instructions. One sign offered a single command, "Don't." Another outside an abandoned building warned, "This area is slightly haunted, but manageable." A third sign unsettled some passersby by setting a walking speed limit of 2.83 km/h, or 1.75 mph, complete with formal formatting. The signs closely mimicked city council notices, but the fine print read "Christchurch City Confusion" instead of Christchurch City Council. The installations were created by artist Cameron Hunt for the Little Street Art Festival. "The idea was to make signs that look official, but with completely absurd messages," Hunt told the Guardian. Hunt said the goal was brief confusion followed by delight. "If it didn't look legit, people would just ignore it instantly," he told Stuff.co.nz, watching the city pause and squint.
